DESCRIPTION White crystalline powder or transparent colourless crystals. Highly soluble in water, practically insoluble in alcohol. It is a natural L(+) tartaric acid salt.

Translucent tetrahydrate crystals. Melting point 70 - 80 °C. At 100 °C, it loses three molecules of water; it becomes anhydrous at 130 - 140 °C; at 220 °C it begins to decompose. Soluble in 0.9 parts water. The aqueous solution is weakly alkaline
